One Killed in Chico Car Accident
One person lost their life during an auto accident that occurred in Chico on Monday, June 24, 2019. According to officials from the Chico Police Department (CPD), the crash occurred during the early afternoon and involved two vehicles. Butte County officials have not yet identified either of the injured parties as they are still notifying their families. One driver involved in the accident reportedly survived the crash, but authorities did not indicate whether or not he or she had suffered injuries. My thoughts and sympathies are with the people who’ve lost someone they love because of this accident.
Crash Information
Police reported that the accident happened at about 2:00 p.m. on Highway 32. According to officials, two passenger vehicles, a grey pickup truck and a white SUV, collided near the Yosemite Road intersection. The crash caused both vehicles to travel off the roadway and into a nearby ditch off the eastbound side of Highway 32. Photos of the accident show the SUV fully inside the ditch and the pickup partially resting on the sidewalk, with its front end resting on the other vehicle’s rear.
Response
Responders were sent to the crash scene directly after police were notified. When they arrived, they found that one of the involved drivers was seriously injured and had been trapped inside their vehicle during the accident. The injured driver was reportedly extricated using special machinery. After the individual was removed from the wreck, they were placed in an ambulance and rushed to a hospital for emergency care. Tragically, their injuries were too significant, and the driver was declared deceased at the hospital.
Investigation
According to CPD, this accident is still under investigation while authorities attempt to determine the causal factors involved. Traffic collision reports are often inconclusive as to fault.
