Fatal Napa Auto Accident Kills One, Injures Two

A fatal Napa auto accident took place during the night of Sunday, February 2, 2020. Napa Police Department (NPD) indicated that the crash took place at night and involved two cars, leaving two people injured and one person with fatal trauma. The decedent has since been identified by the Napa County Sheriff’s Office as Kevin Brandon Patland, a 23-year-old resident of Rohnert Park. Reports from police indicated that the injured individuals suffered moderate to major trauma.

Crash Details

NPD reported that the crash occurred just before 7:27 p.m. at the intersection of Woodlawn Drive and Browns Valley Road around a mile and a half to the west of Highway 29. Patland had reportedly been driving a red Chevrolet Camaro on Woodlawn and attempted to make a left-hand turn in order to enter Browns Valley. However, as the Camaro performed the turn, it collided head-on with a westbound black Infiniti.

Emergency responders at the crash site discovered Patland, as well as the driver and passenger of the Infiniti, were all seriously injured during the accident. All three were placed on ambulances and taken to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center to receive care. Tragically, Patland lost his life at the hospital and was pronounced deceased at 7:58 p.m. Updates on the conditions of the other injured parties remain unreported.

Investigation

NPD shut down Browns Valley Road between Austin and Larkin Ways for nearly seven hours while their Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the area. However, no suspected factors have been reported, and officers continue to look into possible causes. NPD has asked that any accident witnesses or individuals with information about the incident contact Officer Tom Helfrich by calling (707) 257-9223 in order to help with the investigation.

Sadly, when a driver loses their life after a crash, they are unable to tell police what happened. This means that investigators are missing a part of the story and can cause police to overlook important pieces of evidence. This evidence could be a crucial part of a wrongful death case and may lead to negligence on the part of auto manufacturers or other parties.

To ensure that your family’s right to claim compensation is prioritized during the accident investigation, it’s critical to reach out to a nearby Napa personal injury lawyer who can look into the crash privately. A good lawyer will be able to devote time and resources to fully investigate the crash.
