One Dead Following Car Accident in Placer County

One person tragically lost her life on Sunday, July 26, 2020, due to a car accident in Placer County. The Placer County Sheriff’s Department authorities identified the decedent the following day as a 22-year-old woman from Sacramento. The crash involved a single-passenger vehicle, leaving one other with significant injuries besides the decedent.

Crash Information

The crash happened at around 4:36 p.m. on Highway Interstate 80 to the east of Drum Forebay Road near the small community of Colfax. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 2007 Honda Civic was heading westbound on the highway before the accident and allegedly traveling at high speeds and passing other vehicles. CHP stated that, for unknown reasons, the vehicle suddenly veered onto the right-hand highway shoulder and traveled off-road before colliding with several nearby trees.

Response

Accident witnesses contacted CHP, who immediately sent responders out to the scene. When they reached the crash location, officers discovered that the vehicle’s passenger had suffered critical injuries. Tragically, she was pronounced deceased before being taken to a hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 22-year-old man and Sacramento resident, was determined to have suffered major internal injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital via ambulance. Updates on his condition have not been reported.

Investigation

CHP is conducting a full accident investigation but has not stated any suspected crash factors. Single-vehicle collisions can involve multiple causes, often including non-driver accident factors like defective car parts.

Furthermore, fatal accidents can be complicated for police to investigate if they cannot interview all the parties involved. To ensure that the crash is investigated with your family’s rights in mind, working with an Auburn personal injury lawyer with ample experience privately investigating wrongful death claims is best.

The Impact of a Fatal Accident

After the death of a loved one, people often go through an intense period of grief. If the death was due to a fatal accident, feelings associated with grief can be even more challenging to endure. Often, grieving individuals can even feel shocked and unable to keep up with their lives during such a traumatic time. For these reasons, grieving families must do what they can to care for themselves and seek support from their friends and community.

However, it’scontacting a wrongful death lawyer as soon as possible is also very important. Having an attorney early on in a wrongful death case can be critical to claiming the compensation your family needs to cover lost income, medical expenses, and other essential damages.
