North Highlands Vehicle Crashes Into Two Buildings

Driver Plows Into Two Buildings on Georgia Drive

A vehicle crashed into two buildings in North Highlands on February 17, after which the driver fled on foot. According to the report issued by the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, they were called to the scene of the accident around 10:00 p.m. after receiving a report that a Ford Excursion SUV had crashed into a garage and then into a home. The accident happened along Georgia Drive between Watt Avenue and Roseville Road. Fortunately, no one in either building was injured. No information was released on whether the driver of the vehicle was apprehended.

Consequences of a Vehicle Crash

In the United States, a vehicle collides with a building at least 60 times a day, resulting in about 500 fatalities and numerous injuries. Vehicles often crash into buildings when they go out of control for various reasons such as:

  • In many cases, drivers are speeding and not taking extra caution to their surroundings. Crashing into a building at an intersection is a common place for this kind of accident.
  • A medical emergency such as a seizure, heart attack, or stroke can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
  • A vehicle crash with a building is often caused by the driver accelerating by mistake. Drivers either over-accelerate or put the vehicle into the wrong gear.
  • Car accidents that occur on the street can affect other vehicles nearby and push them into buildings.
  • Rain, fog, sleet, snow and other adverse weather conditions reduce visibility as well as the ability of motorists to control their vehicles. A driver who loses control and causes the vehicle to spin or slide can hit a building.
  • When a driver is intoxicated, they may be unable to safely control their vehicle, which could cause a vehicle crash into a building.

Injury Compensation After a Vehicle Crash Into a Building

In the event that someone is injured due to negligence of another person or entity, he or she may be entitled to file a claim for compensation. Injured parties who go about it alone often get awarded less than those who have a lawyer handling their claim. Among the damages you may recover are:

  • Injuries sustained in an accident can result in medical expenses such as hospitalization, ambulance fees, surgeries, tests and medical bills. Those costs are all recoverable. If you drive to your doctor’s appointment, you can even claim the cost of gas. In cases where injury treatment is not completed or there is a permanent disability, those costs are included.
  • A settlement includes compensation for lost wages if the injured party cannot work and is not reimbursed. This includes bonuses and other perks of the job.
  • Pain and suffering are non-economic damages that can be recovered. In addition to the physical trauma, the injured party may recover compensation for the psychological and emotional suffering they have experienced as a result of the accident. Anxiety, nightmares, reliving the accident and even fear of riding in a vehicle or going out of the house are not uncommon. Those who have to seek professional treatment to cope with their post-traumatic stress disorder may recover those costs.
