North Highlands Fatal Sexual Assault
I’m Ed Smith, a North Highlands Sexual Assault Lawyer. Unfortunately, sexual assault continues to occur throughout our region. Recently, an elderly woman from the greater Sacramento area was sexually assaulted and killed while out for a morning walk.
What Happended?
An elderly woman named Fusako Petrus was out for her morning walk at a local high school when she was attacked and brutally beaten by an 18-year-old man named Neven Glen Butler. During the attack, the elderly woman sustained multiple injuries, leaving her badly bruised and in poor condition in North Highlands.
Multiple Attacks had Occurred
Even worse, the police report stated that the elderly woman was sexually assaulted. The suspect was booked on suspicions of sexual assault after he was arrested in the case of a separate attack earlier that day. The other attack also occurred in the greater Sacramento area and involved another elderly woman. The other elderly woman was 92-years of age and was also attacked while walking along a Sacramento street. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of the injuries she sustained while being assaulted.
Tragic Death of Fusako Petrus
The police stated that 86-year old Fusako Petrus was killed defending her friend, aged 61 years, from attack by the 18-year-old assailant. The 61-year-old friend was the original target of the brutal assault; however, Petrus jumped in to try and help her friend. Unfortunately, Fusako Petrus did not survive her injuries, adding the charge of murder to the list and making North Highlands the scene of a horrific wrongful death. Homicide detectives have been actively working on the case, adding that 18-year old Butler had been tied to multiple other attacks that had occurred at North Highlands High School.
Sexual Abuse Remains a Problem
Unfortunately, sexual abuse is a prevalent problem in many areas of society and people have to worry about sexual abuse coming from more than just random people on the street. Sexual abuse and sexual assault can be a problem in foster care, youth sports leagues, and the workplace. This shows that many people could wind up being sexually assaulted by someone that they know. It is important for people to understand that there are avenues for reporting abuse and that they are never alone. The first step to stopping abuse is to tell someone and ask for help.
