New Parking Garage in Roseville Requires Repairs

City officials announced in June last year that the new parking structure for Oak Street in Roseville was officially complete. However, just six months later the eight-story-tall monolith has been damaged at the top level of the structure. The city took action by placing sandbags and various other preventive measures to alleviate the damage. Moving forward, the structure is partially closed during renovations.

Oak Street Parking Garage: Problems and Corrections

According to Brian Jacobson, spokesman for the city of Roseville, the city is in collaboration with the contractors (C. Overaa & Co.) as well as the engineers to reach an agreeable solution for the cracking problem that has significantly impacted the seventh floor. Jacobson was quoted confirming the temporary closure of the seventh floor and further stated that the floor will be covered to avoid any weather-related damage that could occur during winter. Jacobson said that the seventh floor is anticipated to be closed to the public until sometime during spring. Once spring begins, the plan is to apply a weather sealant along the seventh floor to minimize long-term maintenance costs. The floor will then be reopened for public use.

Jacobson contended that the Oak Street parking garage is still structurally sound and remains a top priority to the downtown revitalization. When asked by Gold Country Media if the city would be considering litigation involving the developer, Jacobson reaffirmed that the collaboration has been amicable and that a resolution for the future appears promising. Furthermore, he stated that they are not anticipating litigation to be necessary. Gold County Media attempted to contact Overaa Construction for any comments but did not receive a response. Overaa Construction, the project developer, has constructed over 65 parking garages in Northern California. They were also involved in the newest garage construction at Roseville Galleria Mall.
