New Auburn Traffic Light to Improve Safety

I’m Ed Smith, an Auburn personal injury lawyer. The city of Auburn will be installing a new traffic light to reduce serious car accidents in a critical city location. With construction starting on April 13, 2018, the new traffic light, located at the intersection of Richardson Drive and Bell Road on the northern side of town, is scheduled to be in operation by April 20, 2018.

Traffic Increase

Placer County officials said they anticipate a traffic increase at the access point to Bell Road due to the construction on Richardson Drive. With increased flow of traffic, there is always the risk that there will be an increase in auto accidents that can result in severe or fatal injuries.

Traffic Cautions

Auburn city officials cautioned that the construction project would require temporary roadway closures and traffic detours. City officials added that the lights will be wrapped up in special covering prior to testing before they are finally put into use.

In addition to the new traffic light, the area will be receiving new roadway striping and resurfacing along Bell Road as well as several roads that intersect Bell Road. The roadway resurfacing is projected to affect the flow of traffic in the area between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. during installation.

Roadway Defects

When roadways are not properly designed, constructed, or maintained, they are liable to cause dangerous auto accidents, risking serious injuries. In some cases, a hazardous road design, poor roadway maintenance, or failure to make corrections on a previously reported dangerous roadway condition can be legally at fault for the accident. When this occurs, relevant government entities can often be held liable to pay for damages related to the injuries that their negligence has caused.

However, police and insurance investigators rarely consider the role of roadway defects and design in causing collisions. Because of this, it is an important step to contact an experienced auto accident attorney who is knowledgeable about laws that govern dangerous roadway conditions and roadway design defects.

Claims Against Government Entities

In the case of an accident involving severe injuries or death caused by a defect in a public roadway, the injured party is required by the California Tort Claims Act to file their claim within six months (180 days) of the incident date. This time-frame is much shorter than the time-frame for normal injury claims and often causes difficulties for injured parties.

This restriction is another important reason why individuals who suspect that a roadway defect is at-fault for their injuries should contact a lawyer as soon as possible. Not only will a lawyer be able to make sure that deadlines are met, but he or she can present your case to ensure that you receive the full amount of compensation you deserve.
