Accident Near Kenwood Street Intersection Claims Life of Bicycle Rider

A negligent driver in Sacramento killed a bicycle rider on November 9 and then fled from the scene. The collision occurred near the Kenwood Street intersection with Arcade Boulevard at about 4:35, according to the incident report by the Sacramento Police Department. The female bicyclist died at the accident scene. The roadway in the area was shut down for a period of time while an investigation was conducted into the fatality accident. The identity of the deceased woman will not be released until family members have been notified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Why Bicycle Accidents Happen at Intersections

Intersections are particularly dangerous for bicyclists because there are so many potential hazards. Bicyclists can be hit by turning vehicles, oncoming traffic or even pedestrians crossing the street. To work well, drivers must be alert to bicycle riders and others, traffic lights must function properly, street corners must not be obscured by foliage or other sight barriers, and the design of the crossroad must be good.

Common Types of Collisions Bicyclists Incur at Intersections

The most common type of collision between a bicyclist and a negligent driver is known as a right hook. This occurs when the driver turns right at an intersection, cutting off the bicyclist who may be going straight or attempting to turn left. The driver may not see the bicyclist or may misjudge their speed, causing the two to collide.

Other types of collisions can occur when the driver fails to yield the right of way to a bicyclist or when the motorist backs out of a driveway or parking space without checking for oncoming traffic. In any case, if a collision does occur, the bicyclist will likely be injured due to their lack of protection.

How an Injury Lawyer Investigates to Locate a Hit-and-Run Driver

In many cases, a hit-and-run accident will result in serious injuries or even fatalities. When this happens, the injured person’s family will often hire a personal injury lawyer to help them investigate the accident and locate the at-fault driver.

There are a number of ways that a personal injury lawyer can go about investigating a hit-and-run accident. One of the first things that they will do is review any available footage of the incident, whether it comes from security cameras or dashcams. They will also speak to any witnesses who may have seen what happened.

Once they have gathered all of this information, they will begin to piece together a picture of what happened and who was involved. From there, they will use their resources to try to locate the at-fault driver. In some cases, this may involve working with law enforcement or private investigators.
