Napa Man Dies Due to Accident Injuries
I’m Ed Smith, a Napa wrongful death lawyer. Stephen Mann Jeffries, a 61-year-old man from Napa, recently lost his life after sustaining traumatic injuries in a vehicle accident near Middletown in Lake County almost two weeks ago.
Accident Details
Information included in a report released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicates that the accident occurred on Saturday, September 16, 2017, on Butts Canyon Road. Jeffries had reportedly been driving a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder west on Butts Canyon Road just west of the intersection of Oat Hill Road when he lost control of his vehicle.
After Jeffries lost control, the Nissan traveled across the eastbound lane and exited the roadway, traveling a short distance along the dirt shoulder of the road before colliding head-on with a large tree and coming to a complete stop.
Response
After a caller alerted CHP that there was possibly an injured driver on the side of the road, emergency responders were sent to the location of the collision. Responders discovered that Jeffries had sustained major injuries during the crash and called for a REACH helicopter ambulance to take him to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital to receive emergency treatment for his critical condition.
Additionally, responding officers reported that Jeffries had been properly wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Fatality
Although Jeffries fought hard to recover over the following weeks, Officer Kory Reynolds of the Clear Lake Area CHP reported on October 3, 2017, that Jeffries had succumbed to his injuries and passed on.

Investigation
The CHP has still not released a full report on what factors they believe led to this fatal accident. Jeffries may have lost control of his vehicle for a number of reasons including faulty vehicle parts from an auto shop or manufacturer, defects in the road, or a medical emergency.
Head-On Collisions
Because vehicles involved in head-on impacts transfer the momentum of their vehicle into the velocity of the impact itself, head-on accidents usually involve a tremendously dangerous amount of force. In fact, head-on accidents that occur while vehicles are traveling at a speed of over 40 miles per hour almost always cause catastrophic trauma.
In some circumstances, occupants of a vehicle will have enough time to prepare for the impact of a head-on crash and minimize damage to their bodies. However, it is more often the case that a head-on collision only leaves occupants moments to prepare, making them liable to receive major injuries.
The force of a head-on collision can cause severe shock to the body that is liable to result in injuries such as chest and lung injuries, brain and head injuries, spinal cord sprains and fractures, and facial fractures and lacerations.
