Semi Overturns in Multiple-Vehicle Crash on Highway 99

A semi-crash involving several vehicles occurred near Yuba City along Highway 99 on July 8. The accident happened shortly before 7:00 p.m., closing the northbound lanes at Barry Road, according to a spokesperson for Caltrans. It was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that the big rig experienced a rollover in the crash, and fuel was leaking out. The accident is being investigated to find out how it happened.

Claiming Compensation After a Collision With a Semi

When you’ve been injured by a negligent trucker or the company that employs them, you must act quickly to obtain the compensation you deserve. The large companies that own and operate big rigs usually have a large fleet of vehicles. They are aware that their trucks may crash due to the number of vehicles on the road and are experienced in combating claims against them.

Trucking Companies Try to Avoid Paying for Your Injuries

Trucking companies can generally begin defending themselves immediately against taking financial responsibility even though their drivers carry extensive insurance policies. Companies often hire legal teams to respond to accidents to keep the payout as low as possible.

The team from these companies will gather evidence and interview witnesses to avoid responsibility for their own negligence. Your best defense and to ensure you can collect the compensation you deserve is to have a hard-hitting, aggressive lawyer to defend your claim. At AutoAccident.com, our team of injury lawyers has successfully obtained compensation for injured clients numerous times and can do the same for you.

Investigating a Semi-Crash

We investigate the cause of a client’s injuries caused by a negligent trucker or company. This is done in all civil cases to determine fault and collect evidence to support the client’s claim. Some of the areas where an investigation is conducted include:

  • Driver training: Although truck drivers must be trained to get a commercial driver’s license (CDL), companies are hiring truckers as young as 18 due to the long-time shortage. A young, inexperienced driver is likelier to be involved in a severe semi-crash.
  • Noncompliance with the hours of service: All drivers and companies must abide by federal and state regulations concerning the hours of service and rest breaks. All drivers use an electronic logging device or logbook to record those hours. However, some of them cheat, and this can be determined.
  • Maintenance: Inspections of a big rig by the driver are required when pulling out of the trucking company lot and while on the roadway. Maintenance problems such as bad brakes and worn tires often cause a semi crash involving other vehicles. By checking maintenance records and examining the truck, we can determine whether a lack of attention to problems caused the semi crash.
  • Examining the police report: The investigators look over the police report to ensure it is accurate because errors could affect the client’s ability to claim compensation for their injuries.
  • Surveillance: The area is scoured for surveillance cameras that could have captured the semi crash as it occurred.
