Accident Along Hazel Avenue in Orangevale Results in Injuries

At least one person was transported to a hospital with injuries following a multiple-vehicle crash in Sacramento. The accident happened in the Orangevale area around 2:20 in the afternoon along Hazel Avenue, just south of Oak Avenue. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) report stated that it involved a Toyota Santa Fe, Toyota Corolla, and a Jeep Wrangler.

Further Details About the Accident

Responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess injuries. One or more people were transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center for treatment and additional evaluation. Tow trucks arrived to remove at least two of the vehicles. The roadway was closed for almost an hour while the CHP conducted an investigation into the cause of the multiple-vehicle crash.

The Dangers of Accidents Involving Multiple Vehicles

When an accident occurs, the driver and passengers inside are protected by their seat belts and the deployment of airbags. However, in a crash involving multiple strikes against the vehicle, the protection to those inside is less since the airbags deflate quickly. This means they may suffer more than the initial injuries from the crash. When a negligent motorist caused the accident, the injured parties can place a claim to recover damages to cover their economic and non-economic expenses. These include:

  • Medical expenses that include hospitalization, ambulance fees, testing, medications and rehabilitative therapy are recoverable. If the injury continues into the future, those costs are covered too.
  • Medical devices, home health care and out-of-pocket expenses can be recovered if the injured person needs help recuperating at home. It also includes the cost of continuing to make visits to the doctor, such as gasoline or taxis.
  • Wages and any other associated expenses, such as bonuses that were lost, are recoverable. If the person can no longer work or has to take a lower job because of the injuries, that is covered also.
  • Non-economic damages such as loss of consortium, emotional anguish, loss of the joy of life, depression and anxiety caused by the crash are also recoverable.

Investigating a Multiple-Vehicle Crash

Multiple-vehicle crashes are complex. This is why it’s a good idea to have an experienced lawyer at your side to protect your interests and get you fair compensation for your injuries. Over my 38 years as a personal injury lawyer, I’ve successfully handled many of these types of cases, recovering compensation that covers all medical costs, lost wages and for the client’s pain and suffering. One way we do this is by conducting an investigation to gather evidence in areas such as the following:

  • Performing accident reconstruction in a multiple-vehicle crash is an important part of the investigators’ job. This is because it demonstrates the positioning of the vehicles before the accident and shows how it occurred and who is at fault.
  • The investigators analyze the police report to look for mistakes and talk to the witnesses about what they saw.
  • They look for traffic and roadway surveillance cameras, which might have videotaped the accident as it happened.
  • The scene of the multiple-vehicle crash is examined for evidence. This may include tire marks, paint smears on the vehicles, and broken parts.
  • Whether government negligence caused the multiple-vehicle crash is checked, which can include road design, malfunctioning lights, poor lighting or potholes.

Our lawyers take over once the evidence has been gathered to build a strong case in favor of compensation for our client.
