Multiple-Vehicle Crash in North Highlands

A multiple-vehicle crash in North Highlands on September 10 along Madison Avenue caused an injury to one person. The accident happened around 6:00 p.m. along Madison just west of Hillsdale Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The crash involved four vehicles, including two Toyota Camrys and a truck, and blocked the number one lane along westbound Madison. Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department were called to the scene when it was reported that one party was unconscious in their vehicle. The hospital that person was taken to was not reported. The CHP is investigating the crash to determine how it occurred.

Multiple-Vehicle Crash Causation

There are numerous reasons for a multiple-vehicle crash ranging from slick roads to reckless driving. Many occur at intersections where there is increased traffic flow. Others occur on high-speed highways, especially in congested traffic. No matter how they happen, one factor is usually evident – the vehicles hit one another in a destructive fashion. Let’s look at a few common situations:

  • Rear-end collisions: This type of collision begins with one car hitting the rear end of another. It can happen at an intersection or in slowed traffic on a highway. Once the car hits the one in front of it, several things can occur. The rear-ended car can slam into the vehicle in front of it, often causing it to hit one in front of it. This is called a chain reaction. In a few cases, one of the multiple vehicles can be pushed out of its lane and into an adjacent one. There, other cars can hit it or try to avoid contact. This latter avoidance maneuver can cause even more problems.
  • Slick roads: Roads that are slick pose a problem for drivers, especially at highway speed. It is important to slow down when driving on a slick road since speed can make it all the more possible to lose control. Wet roads after an extended dry season are conducive to hydroplaning. This occurs when the oil on the road mixes with water and causes the vehicle’s tires to lose their grip. When this happens, hitting other vehicles is a sure thing.

What an Attorney Can Do for You

Being hurt in an accident is only part of the story. Due to mounting medical expenses and lost wages, many people suffer considerable financial loss as well. That is where the insight of an experienced personal injury lawyer can help. Our firm dispatches an investigative team to the accident site. There, we search for evidence that proves negligence on the part of the at-fault driver. We also interview witnesses, obtain video footage from traffic cameras and nearby businesses, and review the police report for accuracy. If the accident was caused by factors other than driver error, we check for automotive defects and lack of functioning traffic signals and adequate signage. Once this information is accumulated, we release it to our lawyers who use it to build a strong case in your favor. This is important during negotiations with insurance companies and if the case is brought to civil court.
