Multiple-Vehicle Accident on I-5 in Sacramento

A multiple-vehicle accident on September 24 occurred along Interstate 5 northbound that resulted in at least one injury. It happened just south of the State Route 99 south and Interstate 5 connector around 11:00 in the morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) report. The person who called in the accident to authorities said they were unsure how many vehicles were involved except that two had gone off the roadway.

Details of the Crash

The accident involved several large pickups, including a Toyota Tundra, which experienced a rollover but landed on its wheels, as well as a Ford Flex. At least one person was transported to a nearby hospital following the collision. Although the CHP is charged with investigating the multiple-vehicle accident, no word has been released at this point on whether drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Ways That Negligence Contributes to an Accident

Ninety-five percent of traffic collisions are caused by negligence. To place a claim for compensation for your injuries, negligence must be shown. This can be difficult when it involves a multiple injury accident because vehicles may be struck more than once. This is one of the reasons having an experienced lawyer on your side is necessary. Some ways that negligence can contribute to a multiple-vehicle accident include:

  • Distracted driving such as talking on a cell phone, texting or fiddling with the radio can cause an accident.
  • Fatigued driving can contribute to an accident when the driver is unable to concentrate on the dangers of surrounding traffic or falls asleep.
  • Drugged or drunk drivers are common causes of traffic collisions. However, even some over-the-counter or prescription meds can contribute to one too.
  • Auto parts that are defective can lead to a multiple-vehicle crash, especially if the defect is in a tire or the brakes or accelerator. In these types of cases, the manufacturer and others may be held responsible through a product liability lawsuit.

Seeking Help From a Lawyer

A multiple-vehicle accident can be complicated when it comes to discovering who was at fault. In addition, others involved in a collision of this type will certainly have legal representation, so it’s important to seek advice if you are in an accident involving multiple vehicles. Our experienced investigators immediately head to the crash site to find the evidence needed to support your claim. They begin by interviewing witnesses to the accident and checking over the police report for inaccuracies. They may then perform accident reconstruction, look for road damage that can indicate whether a motorist tried to stop or not and look for video footage from nearby cameras. After the evidence is compiled, it is handed over to our attorneys, who can use this information to either build a strong court case or negotiate on your behalf with insurance companies.
