Additional Details of the Multiple-Vehicle Accident

Responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess injuries, which included one woman who had broken her arm in the crash. She was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The incident is being investigated by the CHP to determine how it happened. The number two lane was reopened to traffic around 3:40 p.m.

Injuries Following a Traffic Collision

When someone is injured in a multiple-vehicle accident, it often results in serious injuries or even fatalities. This is because although airbags deploy in the initial strike, they deflate quickly, leaving the occupants in the vehicle vulnerable to injuries. Some of the most common types of injuries that occur in traffic collisions include:

  • Traumatic brain injuries from striking against the interior of the vehicle or being ejected
  • Spinal cord damage caused by ejection or from being tossed around inside the vehicle
  • Abdominal trauma and chest injuries, which are caused by the seat belt or colliding with the steering wheel or dash
  • Broken bones are common in any type of traffic collision and often occur to the arms or legs

Multiple-Vehicle Crashes Are Complex

Usually, one vehicle is at fault in an accident, however, a multiple-vehicle crash is different, and numerous drivers may be at fault. For example, one driver may be speeding, one tailgating and another may have non-working brake lights. All of those factors can contribute to a collision and result in liability. Because collisions can result in higher insurance premiums, possible citations and points on one’s record, those who are at-fault will be looking to place the blame elsewhere. This is one of the reasons it is important to have an experienced Elk Grove auto accident attorney to represent you when seeking compensation for your injuries.

Investigation of an Accident

Those who place a claim for personal injury damages can receive compensation for all of their medical expenses caused by the accident. They can also obtain compensation for lost wages and the pain and suffering they endured. Our firm conducts an investigation to gather evidence to support the client’s claim that includes the following:

  • Investigators go to the multiple-vehicle accident site right away to gather evidence, which begins with interviewing the witnesses and examining the report filed by the police to determine its accuracy.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which shows the positioning of the cars before the accident occurred, how it happened and how the vehicles ended up afterward.
  • Investigators look for signs of negligence such as speeding, distracted driving, fatigue and intoxication as a contributing factor to the multiple vehicle accident.
  • The investigators look for road evidence such as tire tread marks, which can indicate speed and whether the motorist/motorists attempted to stop before crashing.
  • Damage to the roadway or poor design can cause a multiple-vehicle accident, so investigators look for that too. It can include debris in the road, potholes, malfunctioning or missing signs and others.
