One Suffered Injuries in Multi-Car Crash Near Merced

A multi-vehicle accident occurred near Merced on the morning of Monday, August 14, 2017. The crash, unfortunately, caused one victim to suffer traumatic injuries.

What Happened?

A GMC Yukon SUV was traveling westbound along Yosemite Avenue between M Street and R Street at approximately 8:00 am. The GMC was stopped when it received an impact from a chain-reaction crash. A silver Honda Accord was traveling two vehicles behind the GMC and did not stop in time following the stopped GMC. The Honda rear-ended the two cars in front of it, which propelled the vehicles into the GMC. A white Ford Fusion also could not stop in time after the initial crash and rear-ended the Honda. The Ford was then struck from the rear by a white Hyundai Accent. The force from the Hyundai caused the Honda to be pinned between the Ford and the vehicle in front of it. A total of six vehicles were involved in the crash.

Was Anybody Injured?

One victim was reported to have suffered injuries due to the six-car accident. The victim was transported via ambulance to the Mercy Medical Center in Merced. There were no other injuries reported.

Safety Tips for School Season in Merced

According to Craig McKeeman, an officer for the Merced Police Department, each of the involved motorists were on their way to Merced College. Authorities stated that drivers need to watch their speed, leave enough space while traveling behind another vehicle, and leave early during the school season. As school is opening up after the hot summer vacation in Merced, traffic can be congested for quite a while. Officials urge motorists to avoid texting and driving and drive slow.

Chain-Reaction Accidents

A chain-reaction accident is where multiple vehicles are involved in a series of crashes, primarily caused by an initial single collision. In accidents such as these, it may be difficult to determine liability, and in some instances, more than one party may be held accountable. Typically, the motorist that was found at fault in the first collision of the chain-reaction accident is likely to be held responsible. Some of the causes of these accidents include the following:

A complex incident such as a chain-reaction accident requires a skilled and thorough investigation. It is important to contact an experienced Merced car accident lawyer who can investigate the crash scene and study the chain of events leading up to the collision to pinpoint liability.
