I’m Ed Smith, a Thousand Oaks personal injury lawyer. A Ventura County accident between a motorcyclist and a sedan on Thursday, June 15, caused major injuries to the bike rider. The accident is under investigation by authorities. They ask that any witnesses who saw the accident to contact them with this information.

My prayers and wishes are with the bike rider and his family and friends for his recovery from this terrible tragedy.

Accident Details

The crash occurred around 6:00 in the morning along Pleasant Valley Road close to California State Route 34 in Camarillo, according to a representative of the California Highway Patrol. A sedan, which was driving northbound on the road reportedly turned around on the highway, striking a motorcyclist who was in the southbound lane. Authorities said the motorcycle, ridden by a man from Thousand Oaks, 67, attempted to avoid the crash by veering right but struck the car on the right-hand corner of its front. The accident caused the biker to be thrown from his cycle, according to authorities.

Accident Injury

Emergency personnel at the scene transported the injured man to a medical center for treatment. Officials reported that he had suffered major injuries. The individual driving the other vehicle was not injured in the crash.

Motorcycle Crashes

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported an increase nationwide in motorcycle crashes in 2015. The accidents among motorcyclists that year caused 4,976 casualties, an increase of 8.3 percent. The NHTSA also reported that injuries decreased by 4.3 percent. Motorcyclists have a 29 times higher death rate than the occupant of a motor vehicle and the fatality rate is five times higher. The higher rate of accident injuries and deaths may also be affected by whether or not the rider has a helmet on. Statistics show that 40 percent of riders who died in motorcycle accidents were not wearing a helmet.

Incidence of Motorcycle Accidents in Thousand Oaks

In 2014, there were 63 fatalities and injuries that involved motorcycles. This statistic was out of a total of 254 motorcyclist injuries and fatalities in Ventura County that year. Although, sometimes the bike rider is at fault, in many instances, the fault is due to negligence of another vehicle.
