Motorcyclist Severely Injured in Santa Barbara Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Santa Barbara car accident lawyer. A June 11 crash along California State Route 154 severely injured a female motorcyclist. The woman’s name and details of her injuries are not available yet. The incident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol as to cause and to place fault in the crash.

Details of the Crash

The accident occurred close to Lake Cachuma shortly after 1:30 in the afternoon in Santa Ynez Valley. Santa Barbara Fire Department and personnel from the County Sheriff’s office responded to the call of a reported head-on collision between a motorcycle and motor vehicle. When they arrived, they discovered the woman semiconscious and prostrate in the road. There was no information on a vehicle that was involved in the crash.

Transport of the Injured Woman

While a rescue helicopter was originally called, it was cancelled, and an ambulance from Santa Barbara was used to transport the woman to a hospital. The injuries she suffered in the crash were described as major, but no details were given. The highway was closed while the accident site was investigated by CHP officers and the accident site cleared. This is also the same area where searchers were looking for a missing 5-year-old child from South Pasadena. The searchers were also notified of the accident.

Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents in Santa Barbara County, as elsewhere, result in severe injuries. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 88,000 injuries and 4,976 deaths of motorcyclists who were involved in crashes. In two-vehicle accidents, 74 percent were front-end collisions. It has been shown that wearing a helmet can lower the risk of head injuries for motorcyclists when they are in an accident.

In cases where the accident was caused by the driver of a larger vehicle who was drinking at the time the accident occurred or displayed other types of serious negligence, it can result in a wrongful death. A Santa Barbara wrongful death attorney can help by examining the evidence and using expert witness to compile the necessary data for the family of the deceased person to collect fair damages.
