Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Interstate 80 East of Norwood Ave in North Sacramento

A motorcyclist killed in crash on Interstate 80 near of Norwood Ave in North Sacramento was struck during the morning commute on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Crash Occurred on Eastbound I-80 Near Norwood Avenue

The collision was reported shortly before 7:40 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 80, just east of Norwood Avenue. CHP investigators said the motorcyclist was lane splitting through stop-and-go traffic when the crash occurred.

According to authorities, traffic ahead had come to a stop, but the rider was unable to stop in time and rear-ended a passenger vehicle.

Rider Ejected Into Traffic

The impact ejected the motorcyclist from the motorcycle and into the roadway. CHP said the rider was subsequently struck by oncoming traffic.

Despite emergency response efforts, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Traffic Delays Followed Morning Collision

The crash prompted the closure of the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 lanes of eastbound Interstate 80 while investigators processed the scene and emergency personnel worked in the area.

Officials anticipated all lanes would reopen by approximately 9:15 a.m., though commuters experienced significant delays throughout the morning.

CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. No additional information has been released regarding the rider or any other vehicles involved.
