Hit-and-Run Driver Flees Scene of Florin Avenue Accident

A hit-and-run that caused injuries occurred in Sacramento on April 2 involving a motorcycle. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) around 4:56 p.m. along westbound Florin Avenue just east of 65th Street. The motorcycle as well as a Ford Mustang, were discovered blocking the number one lane.

Authorities Seek Hit-and-Run Driver

It was reported that a black Chrysler 300 was involved in the crash and fled the scene. Sacramento Fire Department first responders were called to the scene, where it was determined that injuries had occurred. Both the motorcycle and Mustang were towed as evidence. A CHP investigation is underway to determine how the crash occurred.

Investigating an Accident Injury Involving a Hit-and-Run

Fleeing drivers have become more common these days and do so for various reasons. In some cases, the driver may be unlicensed or have no insurance. They might have outstanding warrants or be transporting drugs. The vehicle might even be stolen. However, a large number of drivers flee out of fear, and those often turn themselves in afterward.

The problem is that to claim compensation from the driver after an accident injury, that person must be found. The investigators for our law office have successfully located a number of fleeing drivers over the years, and the way we do so is by searching for evidence. Our investigations include the following:

  • Finding the driver requires identifying the vehicle that fled the scene. We send our investigators quickly to an accident scene in order to collect evidence.
  • There is a possibility that local businesses and homes have traffic surveillance cameras that capture video of the accident, which can help identify the vehicle and possibly even the driver.
  • Metal fragments and paint dropped on the scene are examined by investigators. Due to the fact that these items are specific to certain years and manufacturers, you can use them to identify the type of vehicle and the year it was manufactured.
  • Any witness to the accident is interviewed. Witnesses cannot only usually describe the vehicle but also the driver. At times, a witness recorded the collision with their cell phone.
  • To ensure that police accident reports are accurate, investigators review them. The client may lose the opportunity to file a compensation claim if a mistake is found in the report.
  • During accident reconstruction, the vehicles are mapped in their positions before the collision happened, how it occurred and the end result. By doing so, fault can be determined.

Based on the evidence gathered by our investigators, we construct a case that supports the claim for compensation of our client.

It Is Possible For Insurance To Cover Hit-and-Run Accident Injuries

When the suspect driver is identified but is not able to pay for accident injuries, injured parties may qualify for compensation from their uninsured/underinsured coverage. California auto insurance policyholders are offered this add-on policy, and many opt to buy it. If the injured party does not have access to insurance coverage, his or her family member may be able to help. Their uninsured/underinsured policy may be used instead. Rates won’t be affected, and these policies cover those who are injured in auto, motorcycle, or bicycle accidents as well as if they are harmed while on foot.
