Accident on Adeline Street Kills Motorcyclist

A motorcyclist fatality accident occurred in Berkeley on June 12 when the rider crashed. The collision occurred around 12:03 a.m. along Adeline Street near Stanford Street and Alcatraz Avenue, and shortly afterward, calls came in to the Berkeley Police Department. Officers arrived to find that the rider, around age 50, had died in the collision. He did have a helmet on at the time of the crash.

Investigation into Motorcyclist Fatality Accident Ongoing

The county coroner’s office has not yet released the motorcyclist’s name, pending notification of the family. The motorcycle crash represents the first deadly traffic accident in Berkeley in 2022. Last year, seven crashes claimed the lives of eight people. The accident is under investigation to determine how and why it happened.

Causes of a Motorcyclist Fatality Accident

There are a number of reasons that a motorcyclist can be killed in an accident that doesn’t involve another driver. Speeding or riding a motorcycle while intoxicated are common causes that are the fault of the operator. However, there are times that a fatality accident involving a motorcycle rider can be caused by an outside influence, such as the following:

  • A hit-and-run or aggressive driver can cause a fatality accident with a motorcycle rider. Running into a motorcyclist, whether accidentally or intentionally, can result in a crash that kills the rider. An aggressive driver doesn’t even have to strike the motorcycle. They can either tailgate the rider or force them off the road. An injury lawyer can investigate this type of accident to determine whether someone else was the cause through performing accident reconstruction, talking to witnesses, checking for road and motorcycle damage and checking area surveillance cameras.
  • Lack of roadway maintenance can cause a fatality accident that involves a motorcyclist. Because motorcycles have only two wheels, they are much more sensitive to objects, pavement defects, or spills in the roadway. Although the government entity that takes care of maintenance can be held financially responsible, the timeline in which to file is only six months. Getting help from an injury lawyer to handle the claim and negotiations can be a good idea to achieve the best outcome.
  • A defective part in the motorcycle could lead to a crash, such as in the throttle or brakes. Even a defective tire can be to blame. Retaining the motorcycle after a fatality accident is necessary, so it can be checked for defects. If a defect is found that caused the wreck, a product liability claim may be placed against the manufacturer.
