Motorcyclist Killed in Solo Crash on Truxel Road and El Camino Avenue

A motorcyclist died on December 2 after a solo motorcycle accident on Truxel Road and El Camino Avenue westbound. The Natomas accident happened at about 7:00 in the evening, according to the Sacramento Police Department. First responders with Sac Fire determined that the rider had been seriously injured and transported him to the hospital where he died. A passenger on the motorcycle suffered minor injuries.

Additional Information About the Motorcyclist Accident

An investigation into the accident kept the intersection where the crash happened closed for some time. At the time of this report, there is no word as to why the accident happened.  The name of the motorcyclist has not been released pending notification of family members.

Reasons for Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents happen for a number of reasons:

  • Drivers often do not look for motorcyclists, although they keep an eye out for other motorists. A frequent excuse by motorists after striking a motorcycle rider is that they did not see them.
  • Drivers make risky left-hand turns in front of the motorcyclist. Often, these are because the driver is pulling out of a parking lot and thinks they can beat the motorcycle. However, it is difficult to judge the speed of a moving vehicle coming toward you.
  • Drivers parking on the street suddenly open their door without looking, leading to motorcyclist injuries or a fatality.
  • Drivers are distracted and do not see the motorcyclist before it is too late.
  • Roads are in poor condition or have not been maintained. Since a motorcycle is equipped with only two wheels, it can become involved in an accident more easily than a motor vehicle. Potholes and gravel in the roadway are a common reason for a motorcyclist accident.
  • Drunk drivers cause many motorcycle accidents.
  • Speeding makes it hard for a driver to stop in time to avoid hitting a motorcyclist.
  • Motorists tailgate a motorcycle. Hitting a motorcycle in the rear can result in serious injury or death to the rider.

Losing a Loved One in a Motorcycle Accident

Losing a loved one in an accident is one of the most difficult events a family can face. The grief they suffer is accompanied by anger and a need for justice. That is where an injury attorney can help. Many solo accidents were actually caused by defects in the vehicle or poor road conditions.

Common Motorcycle Defects

Manufacturers are obligated to provide their customers with a vehicle that does not have structural or design defects. When this is not done, accidents occur. This is one reason the vehicle should be preserved after an accident. At our firm, we examine the bike for defects. Some of the most common motorcycle defects are listed below:

  • Frame: Defects in the frame lead to many motorcycle accidents. Even a small crack in the frame is capable of doing this.
  • Fuel tank: If the tank has small leaks, it can cause a motorcycle fire.
  • Motor failure: Due to manufacturing defects, the engine can stop running or stall suddenly.
  • Defective tires: A tire blowout on a motorcycle can lead to the death of the rider.
  • Brakes: Defective brakes can cause the bike to stop too quickly or not at all, ejecting the motorcyclist.

Filing a Wrongful Death Lawsuit

If a motorcyclist died due to negligence on the part of a manufacturer or because city roads were not maintained, a wrongful death lawsuit can be filed. After a death, family members may find themselves emotionally and financially drained. The cost of end-of-life and household expenses can leave them in a precarious situation, especially if the deceased supported the family.

A wrongful death claim can provide the family with compensation that covers such costs. While this will never replace the loved one, it will allow the family to grieve without financial challenges.
