Motorcyclist Crashes on I-5 Near Packers Bay Road in Redding Area

A motorcyclist crashes on I-5 near Packers Bay Road in Redding area along southbound Interstate 5 on Sunday morning, September 13, 2026, according to initial California Highway Patrol traffic reports.

The motorcycle collision was reported at approximately 9:20 a.m.

Motorcycle Reportedly Strikes Center Divide

According to preliminary CHP traffic logs, the motorcycle reportedly struck the center divide along southbound I-5.

Initial reports indicated that the motorcycle came to rest near the concrete barrier in the fast lane. The rider was reported down near the center divide, with additional information indicating that he may have gone down an embankment following the collision.

Emergency Personnel Respond to Motorcycle Crash

CHP and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly after the crash was reported.

At approximately 9:31 a.m., emergency communications indicated that the rider was standing and speaking with responders. The extent of his injuries was initially unknown.

One patient was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene. Additional incoming emergency resources were later canceled.

Motorcyclist Reportedly Declines Further Medical Care

At approximately 9:46 a.m., incident command reported that the patient was leaving against medical advice, commonly referred to as AMA.

No additional information regarding the rider’s condition or whether he later sought medical treatment was immediately available.

Cause of I-5 Motorcycle Crash Under Investigation

It was not immediately clear what caused the motorcyclist to lose control and reportedly strike the center divide.

Authorities may consider speed, roadway conditions, traffic, mechanical issues, rider actions, and other available evidence when determining how the collision occurred.

No other vehicles were identified as being involved in the initial reports.
