Major Injuries in Fair Oaks Intersection Crash

A motorcycle crash in Fair Oaks on May 25 resulted in major injuries to the rider. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) report, the accident happened at the intersection of Kenneth Avenue and Manana Way at around 12:31 in the afternoon. Police could not determine whether another vehicle was involved.

Motorcycle Crash Injures Rider

Sacramento Fire Department emergency responders at the accident site determined that the rider had suffered serious injuries and transported the patient to a hospital. A tow truck was called to remove the motorcycle. The CHP is conducting an investigation to determine how the motorcycle crash happened.

How Motorists Cause Motorcycle Collisions

Negligent drivers often cause motorcycle collisions that result in serious injuries or a fatality to the rider. Some of the reasons these accidents happen include:

  • Making a left turn in front of a rider, resulting in a motorcycle crash. In some cases, the motorist misjudges the distance of the oncoming rider.
  • Rear-ending a motorcyclist at an intersection stop is a frequent cause. Distracted driving commonly results in these types of accidents as well as speeding.
  • Drunk driving causes many accidents each year, including motorcyclists.
  • Speeding through an intersection or running a red light or stop sign are common reasons for a motorcycle crash.

Improving the Odds at Avoiding an Accident

Motorcyclists themselves have to be proactive in trying to avoid an accident. Some of the ways in which they can do this are:

  • Wear an approved helmet and replace it if it’s been in an accident already. Helmets have been shown to help prevent traumatic brain injuries, which are a big risk in a motorcycle crash.
  • Don’t ride a motorcycle that’s difficult to handle or that you aren’t suited for.
  • Wear protective gear such as boots, gloves, jacket and pants.
  • Use reflective strips for clothing after dark, which can make a rider more conspicuous to others sharing the roadway.
  • Avoid drinking and riding a motorcycle, which is responsible for a high number of crashes.
  • Ensure your bike is in good condition by checking the brakes, tires, etc. before heading out.

The Importance of Evidence Collection

The collection of data is important to preserve evidence and support a client’s claim for compensation. Our investigators arrive at the scene as quickly as possible because evidence such as scrapes, broken parts, tire skids, blood and damage to clothing can disappear once the accident scene is cleared for traffic. People who may have seen the accident leave too, including eyewitnesses. Using a lawyer who is trained and experienced in handling motorcycle crashes is important so that nothing is missed.

Investigation of a Motorcycle Crash

Investigation of an accident can additionally include the following:

  • Searching for traffic surveillance and business cameras that might have captured the accident on film
  • Performing accident reconstruction
  • Looking for signs of government negligence such as obscured signs, poor road design, lack of appropriate lighting and overgrown foliage
  • Checking for signs of negligence by the driver such as speeding, drunk, drugged or distracted driving

Once the investigation is complete, it is all combined to reconstruct the accident and that information is handed to our lawyers to build a case. It is used with the insurance company or in preparing a court case.
