Motorcycle Accident With Injuries Reported in Elk Grove

Accident on SR 99 Involves Two Motorcycles and Several Vehicles

Several vehicles were involved in a motorcycle accident in Elk Grove on October 3 that resulted in injuries to at least one of the riders. The accident was reported along northbound State Route 99 just south of the eastbound Stockton Boulevard off-ramp around 8:10 in the evening. According to the incident report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a Tesla, Toyota Prius, Honda Civic, and another Honda sedan were discovered at the motorcycle accident scene when they arrived.

Motorcycle Accident Being Investigated to Determine Fault

Although the vehicles and motorcycles were on the right-hand side of the road, the two right lanes were blocked by the collision. Sacramento Fire Department medics were called to the scene when at least one of the motorcyclists appeared to be injured. A tow truck was called to remove the motorcycle. The extent of injuries to the motorcycle rider was not reported. An investigation into the cause of the traffic collision is underway by CHP authorities.

Motorcycle Accident Injuries

Injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident can be serious. The rider cannot only be struck by a motor vehicle but can be thrown from their bike or have it land on top of them, which can increase the severity of the trauma. Some motorcycle injuries that are common include:

  • Broken bones, especially to the legs, arms, and wrists are common occurrences in a motorcycle accident. The rider’s legs are often struck by a vehicle, while their arms, wrists, and hands are injured if they are thrown from their bike.
  • Traumatic brain injuries occur if the rider isn’t wearing a protective helmet. In some instances, even the helmet won’t protect them from brain trauma because of the force of the impact.
  • Abrasions and lacerations, called road rash, are common occurrences. In some cases, the skin has been so damaged that new pieces have to be grafted on. In others, embedded dirt and gravel can cause a serious infection.
  • Spinal cord damage can occur in some motorcycle accidents. This is different from back injuries in that it affects the spinal cord itself, which can result in temporary or permanent paralysis.
  • Scarring and disfigurement occur in some motorcycle injuries, especially to the rider’s face. Plastic surgery may be needed to perform repairs, however, most insurance companies will not cover reconstructive surgery.
