Motorcycle Accident Kills Vallejo Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo motorcycle accident lawyer. On Monday, June 5, 2017, workers at Caltrans found a man who had been in a fatal motorcycle accident on the side of Highway 37 just east of Vallejo. The man was later identified by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as a 51-year-old resident of Vallejo.

Finding a Tragedy

The body was found at around 12:20 p.m. when Caltrans workers were reportedly clearing away tall bushes, shrubbery, and reeds from the shoulder of Highway 37, a short distance west of Skaggs Island. The workers indicated that it was during this routine work that they found a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle submerged in the marsh’s waters. Soon thereafter, the workers found the partially submerged man who had apparently been thrown from his motorcycle during an accident.

Crash Information

When emergency responders arrived at the accident scene, they attempted to give the man emergency medical treatment. Unfortunately, the man was declared dead soon thereafter. If any exist, no witnesses of the accident have come forward so information about the circumstances surrounding this incident is limited. Officials have not determined whether or not drugs or alcohol had anything to do with the incident.

An autopsy at The Solano County Coroner’s office was scheduled for the following day and CHP has issued a public request, asking anybody with information regarding the accident contact them at (707) 428-2100 or (800)-TELL-CHP.

Motorcycle Accidents

According to statistics released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),  an average of about 4,800 motorcyclists in the United States are killed in motorcycle accidents every year and about 90,000 are injured. Additionally, NHTSA’s statistics show that motorcyclists are killed in accidents at a much higher rate than those operating normal passenger vehicles. NHTSA also reports that in past years motorcycle riders had been speeding more often than drivers of normal passenger vehicles when involved in fatal crashes.

Particular Dangers

Motorcycle riders have a higher risk for extremely serious injuries than other drivers of passenger vehicles. This is due to less protection during the crash and an increase in crash risk. Those involved in motorcycle accidents often receive serious traumatic injuries and are at risk for spinal cord injuries, brain damage, broken bones, and more.
