Motorcycle Accident Fatally Injures Los Banos Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Merced car accident lawyer. A motorcycle accident involving another vehicle occurred near Los Banos on the night of Sunday, August 27, 2017. Sadly, this collision resulted in the death of the motorcyclist.

Motorcycle Accident Details

A 49-year-old resident of Los Banos was riding his motorcycle southbound along Mercey Spring Roads near Santa Fe Grade Road at about 8:30 pm. For unknown reasons, the rider allowed his motorcycle to enter the opposite lanes of travel. The motorcyclist collided with an oncoming car. The impact of the collision caused the rider to be ejected from his bike.

Was Anybody Injured?

The two occupants of the involved car were identified as a 65-year-old resident of Merced and a 66-year-old Atwater woman. The Atwater woman complained of chest pain following the accident. It is not yet known whether their injuries required hospitalization. The motorcyclist, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries as a result of the collision. The identity of the victim has not yet been released by the Merced County Coroner’s Office.

We would like to extend our sympathy to the family members of the motorcyclist that passed away in this devastating accident.

Accident Investigation

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. A Traffic Collision Report usually takes up to two weeks to be processed. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is in charge of this investigation. CHP does not believe that drugs or alcohol played as factors in the crash.

Motorcycle Accidents

A 2015 report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that there were 8.6 million motorcycles on the roadway. Of these riders, approximately 88,000 victims suffered traumatic injuries and 4,976 victims passed away due to motorcycle accidents. Some common causes of motorcycle accidents involve:

It is the duty of all motorists to be aware of their surroundings and share the road with bicyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists to avoid colliding with one another. Although such accidents are not always preventable, motorcyclists can reduce their odds of a crash by reading motorcycle safety articles online and/or by taking a motorcycle riding course. If you or a member in your family has been seriously injured due to a motorcycle accident, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Be sure to note all your symptoms to your medical provider to receive the most beneficial treatment options. For more information, contact an experienced Merced car accident lawyer.
