Modesto Pedestrian Accident Injures Woman

A pedestrian was left with significant injuries following a hit-and-run accident in Modesto on October 1, 2018. The accident occurred along South Carpenter Road in the vicinity of Paradise Road at approximately 10:15 p.m. Emergency personnel responding to the scene found an injured 43-year-old Modesto woman lying along the northwest side of the intersection. The victim was transported to the Memorial Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. An update regarding her condition has not yet been released by officials.

Accident Investigation

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was informed by a witness that the pedestrian was crossing along the southbound lanes of Carpenter Road when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle described as red in color. The driver reportedly proceeded south following the collision, leaving the victim behind to suffer from her injuries. So far, investigators have not yet determined whether the walker had the right-of-way at the time of the pedestrian accident.

Common Pedestrian Accident Injuries

Pedestrians lack physical protection from the impact of a motor vehicle in an accident. This means that the injuries they may suffer tend to be among some of the most catastrophic. The majority of these injuries can occur in the area of trauma to the pedestrian’s body or point of impact from the vehicle. It is also possible that a walker can sustain secondary injuries from being propelled into another car or fixed object. Some of the most common pedestrian accident injuries may include internal trauma, bone fractures, spinal cord injuries, torn ligaments, traumatic brain injuries, and more.

What to Do After an Auto Accident

Injured pedestrians are often unsure of what to do following an accident. If this situation applies to you or a family member, watch the following YouTube video to learn what steps to take after being injured in a crash.

Recourse in Hit and Run Accidents

When the driver responsible for a hit-and-run accident goes unidentified or has no liability insurance, injured pedestrians may retract their automobile insurance policy for potential coverage. Uninsured/underinsured motorist protection may compensate victims for their damages based on the amount of coverage determined by their specific policy. Med-pay coverage may cover medical expenses as they incur, generally within a specific time frame and up to a certain amount. Since the damages that may be recovered through these types of coverage vary, you must contact an experienced personal injury lawyer in Modesto to learn more about what you may be compensated for.
