Modesto Major Injury Pedestrian Collision

A Modesto major injury pedestrian collision involving a hit and run driver occurred on December 5, 2018. The incident happened shortly before 9:45 p.m. along River Road in the vicinity of Bystrum Road in south Modesto. A 68-year-old man was walking north across the road when he was struck by an eastbound car whose driver fled the scene following the collision. The walker was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Officials have not yet released an update regarding their condition.

Investigation of the Modesto Major Injury Pedestrian Collision

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is searching for the errant driver responsible for the pedestrian accident. A preliminary CHP report suggested that parts of the suspect vehicle were left behind and recovered in the investigation. Officials determined these parts came from a red 2012-2017 Ford Focus. The Ford is expected to have front-end damage to the hood and driver side fender as well as a missing left side mirror.

Common Types of Pedestrian Injuries

When a pedestrian is hit by a motor vehicle, catastrophic injuries often occur as a result. Injuries sustained in pedestrian accidents range from minor to traumatic injuries such as bone fractures, internal trauma, spinal cord damage, traumatic brain injury, and wrongful death in some extreme cases. When such trauma occurs as a result of driver error, the pedestrian or their family may file a claim against the responsible motorist for resultant damages. Hit and Run Accidents Involving Pedestrians

Many pedestrians are at risk when they take to the roads. Though most injured parties of pedestrian accidents are mainly focused on recovering from their injuries, the underlying issue of how they will be compensated for their damages remains. In cases involving hit and run drivers, an injured walker may turn to their own automobile insurance policy for coverage so long as they have uninsured motorist protection. A claim may be filed against such coverage to claim medical bills, time lost from work, any disfigurements, and other accident-related losses. Even if the at-fault driver does not have insurance or remains unidentified, this coverage is typically available for those affected in these situations.
