Modesto Collision Fatally Injures Valley Springs Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury lawyer. An automobile accident took place in north Modesto during the nighttime hours of Friday, May 5, 2017. The collision caused one victim to suffer fatal injuries and three others to suffer traumatic injuries.

What Happened?

A woman was behind the wheel of her Honda Civic traveling westbound along Pelandale Avenue in the vicinity of Dale Road. The woman was allegedly speeding moments before she sideswiped another vehicle and lost control of the car afterward. The impact propelled the Honda northeast into a grassy area located between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Modesto Commerce Bank. The Honda came to a rest after it collided with a tree and caught fire.

Officers from the Modesto Police Department and the Modesto Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of the car accident. Authorities arrived first on scene and used fire extinguishers to put out the fire from the Honda. When Modesto firefighters arrived, they removed a door of the Honda to remove the motorist that was trapped inside the vehicle. There were also two male passengers in the back seat of the Honda at the time of the collision.

What Caused the Automobile Accident?

Authorities from the Modesto Police Department Traffic Unit are investigating all potential causes of the collision. According to Modesto Police Sergeant Patrick Kimes, speed contributed as a factor in the accident. Investigators suspect that the driver of the Honda Civic was driving above the posted speed limit of 50 miles per hour.

Were They Injured?

The occupants of the other vehicle that was sideswiped were not injured in the automobile accident. The driver and the two backseat passengers of the Honda Civic all suffered major injuries as a result of the collision. The front passenger of the Honda, identified as a 22-year old from Valley Springs. Sadly, he passed away due to the traumatic nature of his injuries.

Two out of the three surviving victims in the Honda Civic were listed in critical condition and the other was listed in serious condition. The identities of the injured has not yet been released. However, the victims ranged in age from 19 to 23.
