Modesto Auto Accident Injures Four
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury lawyer. Four parties, including an infant, suffered injuries after a car accident in Modesto on May 24, 2018. The crash occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. and involved a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a Honda Accord sedan. A preliminary report from local authorities suggested that one driver was traveling westbound along Mount Vernon Avenue while the other motorist was northbound along Tully Road. The westbound motorist reportedly ran a red light at the intersection, causing a serious collision. Medical personnel were dispatched to the scene and transported four parties to an area hospital for treatment of injuries described as moderate to severe. An update on their conditions has not yet been released publicly by officials.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. Police did report that the driver who allegedly ran the red light had no proof of insurance and was driving with a suspended license. It is not yet known whether the motorist was cited for these traffic violations.
California Car Accident Statistics
With a population of nearly 40 million in California, it is no doubt that accidents are bound to happen throughout the state. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 3,623 traffic fatalities occurred within California in 2016 alone. Of these fatalities, 867 occurred to pedestrians, 147 to bicyclists and 548 to motorcycle riders. Speeding was a factor in 1,056 of these deaths while alcohol-impaired driving led to 1,059.
Injuries from Car Accidents
Car accidents are capable of causing serious injuries to those involved. These injuries may include trauma to the head, chest and abdominal area as well as spinal cord and psychological injuries. Such injuries can lead to a lengthy recovery period compounded by mounting medical costs and wage loss.
Accidents Involving Uninsured Motorists
Getting into a car accident is stressful as it is but being involved in one with an uninsured motorist can be even more frustrating. When an individual finds themselves in these types of situations, they may fall back on their own auto insurance policy if they opted in for uninsured motorist coverage. This type of protection offers compensation for damages incurred due to an accident caused by a hit and run driver or uninsured motorist. Even if you have this coverage through your own auto insurance provider, this does not necessarily mean that your insurer is on your side. Insurance companies often try to minimize or deny compensation in these types of claims. By seeking assistance from a seasoned personal injury lawyer in Modesto, you have ease of mind knowing that your attorney will communicate effectively with your insurance company while you focus on recovering from your injuries.
