Officials Found Body of Man Who Died in Car Accident

According to authorities of the Napa County Sheriff’s Department, a missing person was found on the morning of Monday, September 30, 2019. The individual was discovered in a wrecked vehicle in rural Napa and had passed away due to injuries sustained in the crash. The decedent has been identified as a 26-year-old Calistoga resident Cameron Thompson, a Los Angeles local living and working in Napa County. The incident remains under investigation by California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Incident Details

According to police, Thompson was last seen leaving his job at Meadowood, a restaurant in Napa Valley, at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019. Thompson reportedly did not show up to work later that afternoon, prompting coworkers to contact the sheriff’s office to file a missing person report.

Two days later, a coworker who went searching for Thompson called police at around 9:00 a.m. The coworker reported that he had discovered Thompson’s Volkswagen off of Silverado Trail. The vehicle was spotted around 30 feet down a roadside embankment, overturned and leaning against a tree. Firefighters responded to the call and found Thompson inside of the wrecked vehicle.

Crash Reconstruction

An investigation into the accident determined that about ten minutes after Thompson left his work and began driving to Calistoga, his vehicle veered left and traveled across the oncoming lane of Silverado Trail. The vehicle then struck a guardrail before driving off the road. Police say that the car became airborne and struck the tree, overturning before it fell to the ground.

While an investigation into this accident is ongoing, it can be difficult for police to fully understand accidents when involved parties are not able to offer their version of events. This means it is often critical to get in touch with an attorney who can investigate the collision themselves and determine whether or not any negligence was involved.

Crushed Roof Injuries

Rollovers are much more dangerous than other types of car accidents, and statistics show that crashes involving overturned vehicles are much more likely to include fatal injuries. One of the reasons that these accidents can be so dangerous is that cars often aren’t strong enough to withstand damage to their roof. When vehicle roofs are not sturdy enough, accidents can cause much more serious injuries. Because auto product manufacturers are expected to ensure the safety of their vehicles, they can often be held financially liable after collisions that involve roof crush injuries.

In a case of wrongful death, negligent parties such as auto manufacturers can often be held responsible for both personal and financial damages that families suffer. These can include funeral costs, lost income, emotional trauma, and more. To learn more about the payments available to you and your family, it’s best to speak personally with an attorney in your area.
