The Hyundai sustained damage to its front end and had to be towed from the scene. Minor injuries were reported. The incident is being investigated by the CHP to determine how the crash occurred.

Injuries That Cause Delayed Symptoms Can Occur

In some cases, minor injuries in an accident can increase later that may indicate something more serious. In a traffic collision, delayed symptoms are common since adrenaline releases during impact, masking pain for a while. In the event of a traffic accident, even if you only sustain minor trauma, it’s important to be examined by a medical professional.

Delayed Symptoms in Minor Injuries

Many minor injuries in an accident don’t worsen. Others present delayed symptoms that can indicate something more serious such as:

  • After a traffic collision, headaches are common, and many people dismiss them as minor. Headaches that become severe later may indicate traumatic brain injuries such as concussions or hemorrhages. It is essential to consult a physician as soon as possible to rule out this serious trauma.
  • Stiff or sore neck: Strains or sprains of the cervical spine often occur as a result of traffic accidents. In many cases, these injuries are initially symptomless. If left untreated, symptoms can worsen, making it hard to move the head and may affect the shoulders and arms. As the condition progresses, it can become chronic, severely curtailing the person’s life.
  • Abdominal pain: In a collision, the dash or steering wheel can strike people in the front seat. The seat belts tighten and airbags deploy as well. Some would consider these minor injuries that will heal with time. However, it is possible to suffer a life-threatening injury when heavy bruising and pain appear in the abdomen later.
  • Back pain: Initially, back pain may seem minor. A herniated disc or other spinal injury can be a problem when they get worse over time, making it difficult to move. In order to prevent these types of trauma from worsening over time and making movement difficult and painful, it’s a good idea to get them checked.
