Merced Fatal Car Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Merced personal injury lawyer. A head-on collision involving multiple vehicles took place along Highway 59 in Merced during the late morning of Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Unfortunately, the accident caused one victim to pass away from their injuries.
What Happened?
A Toyota Camry was traveling along Highway 59, between Vassar Avenue and Reilly Road just before 11:00 am. For unclassified reasons, the Toyota collided head-on with a pickup truck. The impact from the crash propelled the Toyota and the truck off the roadway. There was another vehicle involved in the collision that appeared to have sustained minor damage. However, the Toyota sustained major body damage as a result of the impact.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that traffic was diverted to Vassar Avenue to allow authorities to clean-up and investigate the automobile accident.
Was Anybody Injured?
According to authorities, at least one person suffered fatal injuries as a result of the accident.

Most Common Causes of Head-On Collisions
Head-on collisions are the most serious type of accident to occur along the roadway. These accidents tend to take place along two-lane roadways where drivers may get impatient behind a slower car. The driver may attempt to overtake the slower vehicle by entering the apposing lane of travel. When a driver enters the opposite lane and fails to recognize an oncoming car approaching, this may result in a devastating head-on collision. The injuries from this type of crash range from traumatic, catastrophic or even fatal injuries.
