Merced Fatal Big Rig Crash

An Atwater woman and her brother were on their way to celebrate the woman’s birthday in the late morning of Monday, April 24, 2017. The woman wanted to go on a fishing trip with her brother, but little did the two siblings know that a big rig collision was going to change their lives forever.

What Happened?

The 57-year-old woman and her 48-year-old brother rode in a 1980 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound along G Street near Old Lake Road in Merced. A 60-year-old Le Grand man was traveling in a big rig behind the woman and her brother. The woman’s vehicle started to slow down, almost to a complete stop. The big rig driver applied the brakes and merged into the southbound lane to avoid crashing into the Chevrolet.

The woman came to a near stop to make a U-turn. However, the woman drove into the direct path of the big rig. The big rig could not stop in time and crashed into the Chevrolet. The front end of the semi-truck collided with the driver’s side of the Chevrolet. The driver of the big rig pulled onto the highway’s right shoulder to render aid to the occupants of the Chevrolet. However, it was too late. The Chevrolet caught fire with the victims inside.

Were They Okay?

No. Sadly, the two siblings suffered fatal injuries.

Loved Ones Forever Remembered

Family members of the two victims still remain in shock after the crash. The father of the two victims remembers his daughter as the most giving person who always puts others first before herself, and his son is a talented songwriter and musician. The father and mother of the two victims concluded by saying that they both have been left with broken hearts that will last the rest of their lives.

Our condolences are with the loved ones of the two victims who passed away in this tragic big rig collision.
