Merced County Crash Fatally Injures Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Merced personal injury lawyer. A Denair man was driving his vehicle in Merced County during the afternoon hours of Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Unfortunately, the man was involved in an accident with another vehicle, which caused him to suffer fatal injuries.

What Happened?

A Denair man was driving his 2005 Chevrolet Cruze westbound along Third Avenue in the vicinity of McCullagh Road just before 6:00 pm. At the same time, a 21-year-old Gustine man was driving his 1997 Honda Civic along McCullagh Road. The Honda was approaching a stop sign at the intersection of McCullagh Road and Third Avenue. The driver of the Honda allegedly accelerated into the intersection and collided with the man’s Chevrolet. The impact of the collision propelled both vehicles into a power pole and metal fence. The Chevrolet later struck a tree and the Honda caught fire due to the crash.

Were They Okay?

The 21-year-old man in the Honda was able to get out of the vehicle safely before receiving burn injuries. The man was treated at the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for minor lacerations. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old man in the Chevrolet was taken to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto and was listed in critical condition. He subsequently passed away five days after the accident while still in the hospital on Monday, June 26, 2017.

We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the man that passed away in this tragic crash.

What Caused the Crash?

A cause of the crash has not yet been released by investigators. It usually takes authorities up to two weeks to issue a Traffic Collision Report. However, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) did not suspect drugs or alcohol to have played as factors in the collision. Traffic reports can sometimes be in error or inconclusive when identifying the at-fault party. It is crucial, especially when someone has lost their life, to contact an experienced accident lawyer who can conduct their own investigation and study the sequence of events leading up to the crash to determine fault.

Similar Car Accident in Modesto

A similar car accident happened in Modesto on May 9, 2017. Two vehicles collided with one another along Sycamore Avenue near Eucalyptus Avenue. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a female motorist trapped in her vehicle. Officers were able to extricate the injured female driver from her car. She was later transported to a hospital and was listed in critical condition. A preliminary report later revealed that one of the drivers ran the stop sign, which caused the collision.
