Marysville Truck Accidents

I’m Ed Smith, a Marysville truck accident lawyer. Being located on a major area highway, Marysville is the site of a number of trucking accidents every year. This blog will detail a few of the major truck collisions that happened recently in the Marysville community.

February 2018 Pedestrian Trucking Fatality

On Monday, February 2018, a 46-year-old man from Fairfield was left with fatal injuries after a big-rig hauling gravel overturned on Highway 70 just south of Marysville. Officers who responded to the crash said that the man had been standing beside a disabled Dodge Ram that was parked on the highway shoulder when the semi-truck failed to navigate a turn and tipped over.

Tragically, the truck landed on top of the pedestrian, causing him injuries that ultimately cost him his life. The driver of the Ram had been inside their vehicle during the accident and also received trauma. The woman, a 54-year-old Fairfield resident, was hospitalized for what medics reported were minor to moderate injuries.

March 2017 Trucking Fatality

On Sunday, March 19, 2017, a trucker lost his life in an accident. The 51-year-old Marysville resident had been hauling cement up to the Oroville Dam in order to reinforce the emergency spillway that protects Marysville and other nearby communities from flooding

The man had been driving a cement truck towards the damn on Highway 70 close to Power House Hill road at about 7:30 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and crashed. California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the driver was the only person involved in the collision. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office declared the driver dead on-scene.

September 2017 Oil Spill

On Thursday, September 7, 2017, a large truck crashed on a section of Highway 20 just east of Marysville. The accident caused thousands of gallons of gasoline to spill out of the truck and left the driver with traumatic injuries.

Authorities reported that a 51-year-old man from Sacramento had been driving the big rig eastbound on the highway west of Plantz Road. The tanker reportedly drifted onto the south side of the highway and overturned due to the shifting weight of its cargo, eventually coming to a stop on its side in an irrigation ditch.

The tanker ruptured in several areas, causing it to release a large amount of gas into the irrigation ditch. CHP reported that the site was declared a hazardous material scene.

The driver was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with what medical officials identified as serious injuries. CHP noted that DUI was not involved in the accident.

August 2017 Truck Collision

Another Marysville truck accident happened on Thursday, August 3, 2017, when a local woman attempted to turn left onto Highway 70. The woman reportedly cut in front of a truck and trailer and sideswiped the large truck. The impact of the collision caused her vehicle to turn sideways and continue about 50 feet into Ellis Lake.

The woman was rescued from her sinking vehicle by the truck driver and a handful of people who had been nearby when the collision happened. Once the truck driver and another man pulled the woman from her vehicle, responding officers helped them swim the woman to shore. The woman was subsequently transported to a local hospital by Marysville Fire Department personnel for treatment of her injuries.

Trucking Accidents

Not only are trucking accidents often the cause of severe injuries but dealing with them legally can be tricky. Because trucks are often owned by large companies, legal teams are typically at the ready in order to disclaim responsibility for the driver and their company.

If you’ve been in an accident involving a big rig, calling a lawyer as soon as possible is an important step in getting the payments you need for recovery.
