Manteca Boy Killed After Big Rig Crash in Livermore

A 12-year-old Manteca boy was killed after a big rig crash in the Livermore area on the afternoon of Monday, September 21, 2020. The truck accident occurred around 1:20 p.m. on Interstate 580 in the vicinity of Airway Boulevard. A Chevrolet Tahoe was reportedly headed westbound on I-580 when it was involved in a traffic collision with a tractor-trailer and overturned, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). As the SUV rolled over, two children were allegedly ejected from the vehicle. One of the minors suffered serious injuries. Sadly, the other child was pronounced deceased at the scene of the trucking crash.

Loss of a Loved One

A devastating event such as a big rig crash has the potential to result in fatal injuries for those involved. If a child was killed by the negligent behavior of another, their parents or legal guardians have the right to seek justice and compensation from those responsible for their loss. While no amount of money can ever make up for such a loss, an experienced Manteca wrongful death lawyer can help you and your family hold at-fault parties financially accountable for their negligence in the aftermath of a fatal accident involving your child. Following such a heartbreaking experience, your lawyer can seek payment of outstanding end of life medical expenses, funeral costs, intangible losses, and more.

Top Reasons for a Big Rig Crash in Livermore

A fatal big rig crash may occur as a result of many factors. Drowsiness is a significant issue. Truckers are expected to follow the Hours of Service (HOS) laws, sometimes truck drivers are pressured by their employers to drive extended hours to meet delivery deadlines. The fatigue may affect the judgment of the trucker and increase the risk of a trucking collision. Lack of training and inexperience is also a top cause of truck accidents. Some truck drivers may not have the skill and experience it takes to operate a vehicle of such immense size and weight.

Speed is another common reason for tractor-trailer crashes and often stems from truckers under pressure to meet strict deadlines. Big rigs require more time to stop, and at high speeds, that is not always possible when quickly approaching slowed or stopped traffic. These are some of the many reasons a truck driver and trucking firm may be deemed negligent in a wrongful death case. While liability may be clear in some cases, insurance companies may still use defense tactics to downplay the value of the claim or even deny it altogether.
