Man Fatally Struck On Napa Highway
Napa Police Department (NPD) reported a serious car accident on the night of Wednesday, January 30, 2019. The accident left one person with fatal injuries. The fatally injured man was a pedestrian trying to cross a local highway. The pedestrian has not yet been identified by Napa County officials who will release his identity once his family has been notified. California Highway Patrol (CHP) says that they are conducting an investigation into factors that were possibly involved in the fatal accident. I would like to send out my condolences to the family members and friends of the deceased as they are mourning their tragic loss.
Collision Details
CHP reports state that the pedestrian was crossing over Highway 29 at about 6:25 p.m. at the Trower Avenue intersection on the northern end of Napa. Officers say the pedestrian was walking in the rightmost lane of the northbound side of the highway when he was struck on the southern side of the intersection. The vehicle was not identified, but reports say the driver stopped immediately and cooperated with officers at the accident scene.
Both CHP and NPD sent officers to respond to the crash. Medics reported that they found the pedestrian with major injuries and attempted to save his life by performing CPR. Tragically, responders could not revive the man, and he was declared deceased at the collision location. No other people were injured during the incident.
Investigation
Police shut down the northbound side of Highway 29 after the accident. Officers also diverted vehicles on both sides of Trower avenue. The closure lasted over five hours and finally lifted sometime around midnight. During this time, officers investigated the accident scene. Reports state that there were no pedestrian signals on the southern end of the intersection. Witnesses told police that the victim may not have been walking inside of the intersection’s crosswalk. As the investigation continues, officials have not stated what they believe was the primary cause of the fatal crash.
