Accident on Willard Parkway Causes Serious Injuries to Motorcyclist

An investigation by authorities is underway to determine how a major motorcycle accident injury occurred in Elk Grove on April 14. According to the Elk Grove Police Department, the collision occurred along Willard Parkway at the intersection with Blossom Ridge Way. Witnesses to the collision said that the motorcyclist ran through a red light where they were struck by a vehicle legally passing through.

Motorcycle Rider Was Not Wearing a Helmet

The motorcyclist was allegedly ejected from his bike, went airborne, and landed on their head. A protective helmet was not worn by the rider at the time of the collision. An ambulance transported the rider to Kaiser South Sacramento Medical Center.

Major Motorcycle Accident Being Investigated

The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators into the major motorcycle accident. Northbound lanes, as well as one lane heading southbound on Willard Parkway, were shut down along with the entrance from Blossom Ridge, while the investigation into the incident proceeded.

Why Motorcycle Accidents Happen That Involve Negligence

Drivers of passenger vehicles and trucks are a common cause of a motorcycle accident that results in injuries. Some of the main reasons a motor vehicle causes a motorcycle accident include:

  • Turning in front of a motorcycle rider: Forty-two percent of all motorcycle collisions with motor vehicles are caused by a driver pulling out in front of someone on a bike. In some cases, the motorist thinks he/she can turn before the motorcyclist reaches them, but distances and speeds are hard to judge.
  • Head-on crashes: Most accidents involving a motorcycle and passenger vehicle are head-on collisions. These often occur on rural roads.
  • Reckless drivers: A driver who is speeding, tailgating, running a red light, or other reckless behaviors can cause a major motorcycle accident.
  • Drunk drivers: Drunk drivers cause many accidents, including to motorcyclists.

Dangers That Can Lead to a Major Motorcycle Accident

Road hazards can lead to a major motorcycle accident injury. Because motorcycles have only two wheels, dangers that would not necessarily affect a passenger vehicle can cause the motorcycle to slip, slide or crash. These include:

  • Gravel lying on the road
  • Railroad tracks
  • Ruts in the road
  • Uneven pavement
  • Wet leaves
  • Potholes
  • Standing water
  • Debris or items that have fallen from a vehicle
  • Oil slicks left by spills

Getting Help Following a Motorcycle Crash Injury

Our law office has the investigators, legal team, and resources that can help an injured motorcyclist get fair compensation to pay their medical costs, lost time at work, and reimburse them for their pain and suffering. Our investigators talk to the witnesses, review the police report for mistakes and look for video footage to support our client’s claim. They perform accident reconstruction, which can prove fault and is widely used by insurance companies and in court.

If a road hazard that caused the major motorcycle accident was because a government agency was negligent in maintaining the area, the injured rider may file a claim to recover damages. Our investigators will examine the accident site carefully to see if road damage or negligence caused the collision.

Once the information is gathered, the data is turned over to our legal team and is used to build a robust compensation case in support of our client.
