Single-Vehicle Crash on Northgate Boulevard Results in Serious Injury

A single-vehicle crash in Natomas recently trapped the injured driver in the vehicle. The accident happened on Northgate Boulevard and Tandy Lane around 8:37 in the evening. Units with the Sacramento Police Department and Sac Fire were sent to the address where they reported that they found that an Infiniti G35 had crashed into a tree. The driver of the vehicle had to be extricated by the fire department.

Driver Suffers Major Injuries in Intersection Accident

It was reported that the driver suffered major injuries in the single-vehicle crash and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. The accident is being investigated by police to find out what caused the collision. Since it was raining at the time of the crash, weather conditions may have contributed to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Why a Single-Vehicle Crash Happens

In most cases, driver error is the cause of a single-vehicle crash. However, what appears to be the cause of an accident on the surface may not be accurate. Accidents involving a solo vehicle may also be attributed to factors outside the driver’s control, such as:

  • Auto defects: An accelerator, steering, brakes, or engine with defects can cause a single-vehicle crash resulting in a major injury. This is one of the reasons it is important to retain a vehicle following a collision, so it can be inspected for defects. In these cases, a product liability claim may be placed against the manufacturer and others.
  • Other drivers: A hit-and-run driver can cause a major injury accident, and by fleeing the scene, it can be assumed that no other vehicle was involved. Our injury attorneys can check road and traffic cameras and other evidence that can prove that another vehicle was the cause of the accident.
  • Government maintenance: Poor maintenance of roadways, which can include debris or low-lying areas where water collects and freezes, can easily lead to a major injury accident. In these cases, the government entity charged with maintenance may be held responsible for a major injury collision. However, because the timeline for filing against a government entity is much different, it is important to consult quickly with an injury attorney. In this way, deadlines will be met. Otherwise, the case will not be heard in court.

Types of Injuries in a Single-Vehicle Crash

Some of the more common injuries seen in a single-vehicle accident are:

  • Head trauma: Hitting a fixed obstacle in a single-vehicle collision can lead to a major injury. Head injuries can have repercussions ranging from a simple concussion to bleeding on the brain. The latter usually requires surgical intervention.
  • Neck injuries: Trauma to the neck area as the vehicle impacts a stationary object such as a tree can cause cervical strain and sprain. This is more commonly known as whiplash. It causes neck and upper back pain, which might persist for over a year in some people.
  • Back injury: A major injury to the back can range from a herniated disk to spinal cord trauma. Herniated disks sometimes heal with medication, but many require surgery. Trauma to the spinal cord can result in paralysis to both the upper and lower extremities.
  • Fractures: Depending on the type of collision, an individual can suffer broken bones. Some are able to be cast and heal within a short period of time. Still, others require surgical intervention since the bone may break into several pieces that might require pin placement.
