Accident on I-5 Between Multiple Vehicles Injures Pedestrian

A major injury occurred in Elk Grove on November 28 that injured a pedestrian. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as occurring along northbound Interstate 5 just south of the Elk Grove Boulevard Exit around 10:37 in the morning. The pedestrian was reportedly accompanied by a nephew at the time of the multiple-vehicle crash. The pedestrian was discovered by first responders with the Sacramento Fire Department on the ground holding his hip and in obvious pain.

Vehicle That Caused Major Injury Left the Accident Scene

The vehicle suspected of injuring the pedestrian was described as a white Dodge 3500 pickup dually pulling an open trailer with a full-size bobcat on it. The driver did not stop at the scene and allegedly continued along I-5. The accident apparently also involved an SUV and several sedans. Several semis were reported by the CHP as stopped on the right-hand side of the road as well as some sedans.

Additional Information

It was unknown at the time whether all of these vehicles were involved in the accident or had stopped to assist the injured pedestrian and others. No information was released on what hospital the pedestrian was transported to by first responders.

Pedestrian Injury Accidents

Pedestrians who are struck by a motor vehicle can often suffer a major injury. This is because of their lack of protection. Common injuries suffered by pedestrians in a major injury accident include:

  • Traumatic brain injuries from concussion to hemorrhage are frequent in pedestrian collisions.
  • Hip and pelvic injuries can be serious and require surgical repair. Some may result in permanent trauma.
  • Abdominal trauma is a major injury that can cause internal bleeding or organ damage. These types of injuries often require emergency surgery and are life-threatening.
  • Spinal cord damage can result in temporary or permanent paralysis. The extent of paralysis from this major injury depends on the location along the spinal column.
  • Broken bones are a major injury, especially if the bone is crushed or has multiple fractures.

Finding a Hit-and-Run Driver

Hit-and-Runs are becoming more common as drivers refuse to accept responsibility for their lack of care toward others. However, a hit-and-run that results in a major injury or fatality is often charged by authorities as a felony. The driver who commits a hit-and-run can face severe penalties, including jail time and large fines as well as the suspension or revocation of their driver’s license.

In our law office, we have a good record of locating hit-and-run drivers. In addition to working with the authorities, we conduct our own investigation to locate the fleeing driver. We are dedicated to finding these drivers because we do not believe that someone injured by another’s negligent actions should have to bear the financial brunt in addition to the pain and suffering they experience.

Insurance to Pay Injury Costs

Californians are always offered optional insurance to cover uninsured/underinsured drivers if they are in an accident, whether it’s in an auto, on a motorcycle or bicycle or on foot. This policy can be used to pay for accident injuries caused by a negligent driver. If the injured person does not carry this insurance rider and another family member in the household does, that can also be used. It will not affect the rates.
