Accident on State Route 12 Involves Three Vehicles

A major injury crash near Isleton on March 12 was a head-on collision involving three vehicles. The accident occurred around 3:48 p.m. along westbound State Route 12 just west of the Brannon Island Road drawbridge. The crash involved a Honda, Toyota Camry, and another sedan.

Two Vehicles End Up in a Ditch

One of the vehicles was discovered by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) blocking the roadway, while the other two had left the road and ended up in a ditch. A Sigalert was issued to warn motorists of the blocked roadway due to the major injury crash. Eastbound lanes were open shortly after 5:00 p.m., and drivers were urged to use caution when passing through the area.

Three-Vehicle Major Injury Crash Being Investigated

The Sigalert was canceled around half an hour later. No further information was provided on how many people suffered injuries in the collision. The CHP is investigating the crash to assign fault and discover how it occurred.

Major Injury Caused by a Head-On Collision

Head-on collisions are one of the most dangerous types of traffic accidents. The reason why is because the speeds of both vehicles are combined upon impact. That means that if both vehicles are going toward each other at 60 mph when they collide, the speed of impact is as if a car hits a wall at 120 mph. Traumatic injuries and fatalities are common in an accident of this type.

Head-On Collisions on Rural Roads

A head-on collision along a rural road commonly causes a major injury or fatality. Although many head-on accidents occur in cities along one-way streets or by a driver going up the wrong highway ramp, rural accidents of this type have similar causes, including:

  • A driver is passing unsafely, including by crossing over the double-yellow line.
  • The driver is passing on a hill without a clear view of oncoming traffic.
  • A vehicle pulls out of a side road without looking and collides head-on with another car, causing a major injury.
  • A distracted driver is texting or changing their radio station and drifts over the centerline without noticing.
  • The person behind the wheel of a vehicle has been drinking or using drugs, which affects their ability to drive safely, resulting in a major injury accident.
  • A speeder comes up behind a slower vehicle too fast, causing them to lose control and go into the opposing lane.

Seeking Compensation Following an Injury Accident

To file a claim to recover compensation, an investigation has to be conducted to gather the evidence against the at-fault driver to support it. Our investigators perform the following to collect that proof:

  • In order to ensure that the client’s compensation claim will not be affected by mistakes in the police report, it is important to review it carefully.
  • Witnesses to the collision are interviewed by investigators. Cell phones could have been used by some of them to record the accident as it occurred.
  • A traffic camera check is conducted in the area to see if any evidence of the accident is present. It is possible to serve a subpoena on the record if there is evidence that the accident was recorded.
  • An accident reconstruction is performed, which pinpoints where the vehicles were initially and how they collided.
