Golden Center Freeway Trafic Collision Results in Major Injury

A Grass Valley traffic collision involving three vehicles on July 13 caused a major injury. An automated recording from one of the vehicles notified the California Highway Patrol (CHP) of the collision just after 1:00 p.m. on northbound Golden Center Freeway just south of the Dorsey Drive on-ramp. Two of the vehicles involved in the accident were a Subaru and a large truck. The accident blocked the entire roadway, and traffic had to be diverted. A clean-up crew was required to remove the debris from the collision.

Vehicle Taken in Evidence Following Traffic Collision

All three vehicles were towed from the scene, one as evidence. Calfire first responders determined that at least one major injury had occurred, and the patient was taken to a hospital to be treated. A determination of the cause of the accident is underway by CHP traffic investigators.

How Multiple-Vehicle Crashes Happen

A multiple-vehicle traffic collision on a highway is a common occurrence and can result in serious injuries or death. Among the main causes are:

  • Impaired driving: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs impairs judgment, reaction time and reflexes, increasing the risk of a collision between vehicles.
  • Distracted driving: A distracted driver can cause an accident even if their eyes are taken off the road for only a few seconds.
  • Speeding: A driver who is going above the speed limit requires a longer distance to stop and may take longer to react to a problem up ahead.
  • Fatigued driving: The reactions of overly tired drivers are similar to those of someone under the influence of alcohol. On the road, they are a danger because of this.
  • Roadway neglect: Several factors can cause a vehicle to lose control, including potholes, obstacles, poor signage and others. There is a time limit of six months for filing a claim for compensation, so it may be a good idea to get assistance prior to filing.
  • Misfunctioning vehicle components: A vehicle that does not have working brakes, tires and other components can cause an accident. It is possible to file a claim for auto product liability if a defective part was involved. To determine if a vehicle has any defects, it must be retained.
