Vehicle With Five People Exits Road in Major Injury Collision

A major injury collision occurred northeast of Chico when a vehicle exited the roadway. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the accident occurred around 4:32 p.m. along Skyway Road just west of Lovelock Road. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that a Ford F-250 pickup carrying five people had gone off the roadway about 60 feet.

Severe Trauma Suffered by One Person in Major Injury Collision

Emergency responders with the Butte County Fire Department arrived at the scene to assess injuries. They determined that one person had suffered head and back injuries and transported that patient to a hospital. The vehicle had to be brought back up onto the roadway by a wrecker. The road reopened shortly after 6:00 p.m. The CHP traffic collision unit is investigating the cause of the accident.

Factors Contributing to Off-Road Accidents

Speeding, poor weather conditions, and distracted driving cause most off-road accidents. A single-vehicle major injury collision can be caused by an external factor. Medical expenses, time away from work, and pain and suffering compensation may be recoverable if the injured party can prove damages.

Off-Road Accidents Are Often Caused by Mechanical Failure

Accidents involving solo vehicles can be caused by vehicle defects. Among the factors are:

  • Tires: The driver can lose control of the vehicle if the tires blow out or separate in the tread, leading to a major injury collision.
  • Brakes: Vehicles that fail to brake will continue accelerating, and a run-off-road collision may occur, resulting in serious trauma.
  • Accelerator: A solo vehicle can crash due to a stuck or malfunctioning accelerator. In these cases, the driver eventually loses control of the vehicle as the speed increases.

An injury lawyer can help you file a product liability claim against the manufacturer and others in the production line if a mechanical defect leads to an accident that results in trauma. To inspect the vehicle for defects after an accident, the vehicle should not be destroyed so it can be inspected for potential problems contributing to the collision.

Negligence by the Government

Road conditions such as potholes, fissures, and pavement upheavals can contribute to solo vehicle accidents. Injuries caused by faulty maintenance are the government’s responsibility. You might want to contact a lawyer when dealing with a government entity. You have only six months to file a claim before the statute of limitations runs out.
