Major Injuries Reported in State Route 65 Truck Collision

A truck collision on May 16 caused major injuries in a crash with a Mazda Miata in Lincoln. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the accident to have occurred on southbound S.R. 65 just north of Nelson Lane. The crash blocked the slow lane. Fire department medics determined that major injuries had occurred in the crash. CHP traffic accident investigators are determining why the collision occurred and assigning fault.

Type of Injuries Caused by a Big Rig Truck Collision

The size and weight of big rigs make them prone to collisions that lead to serious injuries. Some of the more common injuries include:

  • Brain: In an accident with a large truck, a person could suffer a concussion or an even more serious type of TBI. This type of injury can have both short-term and long-term effects on the victim’s cognitive functioning.
  • Spinal cord: Injury to the spinal cord can result in partial or complete paralysis resulting from the impact of a big rig. Chronic pain and other physical disabilities may also be suffered by those who are injured.
  • Broken bones: In truck accidents, those involved often suffer broken bones due to high speeds. There may be a need for surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process depending on the severity of the fracture.
  • Soft tissue trauma: Cervical strain or sprain (whiplash) are examples of soft tissue injuries that can result from a big rig collision. Muscles and ligaments in the neck and shoulders are strained when the neck is forced backward and forwards quickly.
  • Internal injuries: Internal organs can be severely injured in a big rig collision, including the spleen, stomach and liver. It may be necessary for victims to be hospitalized and receive long-term medical treatment depending on the extent of the injury.
  • Survivors of truck accidents are often affected by psychological trauma, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Mental health issues can result from this.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a big rig accident, you should contact an experienced attorney immediately. You can protect your rights and get the compensation you need with the help of an attorney.
