Major Fairfield Accident Injures Two

I’m Ed Smith, a Fairfield car accident attorney. A major thoroughfare in Fairfield was shut down for hours after a major auto accident involving two vehicles that occurred on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Reports indicate that two individuals were injured as a result of the incident, with one individual sustaining major trauma.

What Happened?

Fairfield Police Department (FDP) officer Lt. Greg Hurlbut spoke to reporters and said that a box truck hauling recycled material had been turning from the northbound side of Peabody Road and crossing southbound lanes in order to turn onto Cement Hill Road at the time of the accident.

While the box truck was navigating the turn, Lt. Greg indicated, a Ford Mustang approached from behind and rear-ended the truck. Photos from the collision site show major damages to the front end of the Mustang with its front end nearly completely missing.

Response and Trauma

Responders from the Fairfield Fire Department (FFD) were the first to arrive at the scene and found that the passenger of the Mustang, a 24-year-old man, was pinned inside the wrecked vehicle. Firefighters extricated the passenger from the vehicle and discovered that both of his legs had sustained bone fractures.

The driver of the Mustang, a 26-year-old woman, was found with what was initially described as a minor head injury. The woman also told responders that she was experiencing pain in her chest following the crash. The Mustang driver and passenger were both taken to a nearby trauma center by ambulance for treatment of moderate to major injuries.

The driver of the truck was not reported to have sustained any injuries as a result of the crash.

Investigation

Investigating authorities are currently attempting to identify all of the causal factors involved in this accident. Police have not made any mention of whether or not intoxication by alcohol or drugs is suspected. Other causal factors under investigation include faulty vehicle parts, driver distraction, driving at hazardous speeds, lack of proper signage, medical emergencies, and more.

Injury Complications

Head injuries and other types of trauma can seem negligible at first. However, many injuries that don’t seem important directly after an accident can worsen with time and, if they are left untreated, can result in chronic conditions, disability, and even death.

For this reason, it should always be a top priority to receive medical screening for injuries after you’ve been involved in a crash. Not only will this prevent conditions such as concussions and internal bleeding from becoming more serious, but individuals who don’t seek medical attention directly after an accident often have a more difficult time convincing insurance adjusters and juries of the severity of their injuries when they attempt to seek the recompense they need.
