Madera County Pedestrian Fatality

Madera County Pedestrian Fatality

A Madera County pedestrian fatality occurred on December 10, 2018. An investigation is underway by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) following a fatal hit-and-run accident along the on-ramp for Avenue 12 to Highway 99. A body of a 62-year-old Madera man was found in the roadway at approximately 5:00 in the morning and was reported to officials by a passerby. The driver who struck the elderly pedestrian reportedly fled the scene and is believed to have continued northbound along Highway 99. Identifying information of the deceased has been withheld due to pending family notification.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences and support to those who are mourning the loss of their loved one during this difficult time.

Common Causes of Pedestrian Accidents

Pedestrians in California have the same legal responsibilities as drivers to stay out of harm’s way on the road. However, not all drivers respect the right of way of pedestrians. Some of the common causes of pedestrian accidents attributed to driver error include distracted driving, alcohol intoxication, improper lane use, failing to stop or yield to walkers at designated and undesignated intersections, speeding and more.

Hit and Run Accidents Involving Pedestrians

Pedestrian accidents often occur suddenly and without warning. Drivers involved in such incidents may flee the scene due to lack of automobile insurance, suspended driver’s license, or drunk driving. In these situations, a pedestrian can turn to their own car insurance policy for potential coverage. Med-pay coverage can also help pay for pedestrian’s medical bills as they are incurred. Uninsured motorist protection can help cover a pedestrian’s damages caused by an uninsured or hit and run driver. How a Madera Pedestrian Accident Attorney Can Help

Pedestrian accidents often force injured parties and their families to endure significant emotional and financial hardships. An experienced Madera pedestrian accident attorney can help in these situations by properly determining liability to secure fair compensation. This can help cover any medical expenses, time lost from work, disfigurements, future lost income due to disability, and other accident-related losses. Conversely, compensation from a wrongful death claim can help cover expenses of a loved one’s funeral and burial, end of life medical treatment, lost inheritance, loss of future financial support for the household, and more.
