Roadway Closed in Gas Tanker Truck Crash Due to Possible Leaks

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the crash and issued a large road closure as a Cal Fire unit arrived to determine how much fuel had leaked. Both sides of the road were shut down between Shingle Road and Sunset Meadows. Information was not provided on injuries that occurred due to the crash. The CHP traffic detectives are determining what caused the accident to happen.

Getting Into a Tanker Truck Collision Can Be Very Dangerous

Modern transportation relies heavily on tanker trucks to move liquids and gases. However, the size and dangerous contents of tankers make collisions involving them especially risky. In the event of a collision, tankers carry many flammable substances, increasing the risk of extreme fire damage and explosions.

Dangerous Spills Can Result From a Gas Tanker Truck Crash

It is possible that these materials could leak or spill onto the roadway after a collision, increasing environmental risks by contaminating water supplies or soil. Besides causing damage to property, fumes can also cause sickness or death among people and wildlife due to health hazards.

Tanker Trucks Transport Dangerous Substances

Oil, chemicals, gas, and fuel additives are commonly transported on big rigs. Tanker trucks are commonly used for transporting hazardous materials such as:

  • Corrosives such as sodium hydroxide and sulfuric and hydrochloric acids
  • Benzene and acetone form peroxides
  • Fuels and oils made from petroleum, including gasoline, diesel, and motor oils
  • Methane and oxygen are compressed gases
  • Petroleum, kerosene, and propane are all flammable liquids
  • Chemicals that are toxic, such as pesticides, herbicides, and solvents
  • Uranium and plutonium are radioactive materials
  • Gunpowder, ammonium nitrate, and dynamite are explosives

Accident Compensation

The driver and owner of the vehicle might be responsible for compensating you if you have been injured in a gas tanker truck accident. To determine whether the driver was at fault and how to pursue your legal rights, you will need the help of a personal injury lawyer with experience. Your attorney may seek compensation instead from a third party, such as the truck owner or manufacturer if they are found to be at fault.

How Your Lawyer Helps You in Other Ways

An accident attorney can also assist you in documenting your losses, such as medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. If you are claiming injury compensation, this can help work toward you obtaining the maximum amount of compensation. In addition, the attorney can negotiate on your behalf with insurance companies and other parties.
