Plane Crash Near Lake Berryessa Today

I’m Ed Smith, a Lake Berryessa plane crash lawyer. Two individuals passed away after their amphibious plane crashed near Napa County’s Lake Berryessa today. The cause of the two-seat airplane going down is currently under investigation.

Details of Plane Crash Near Lake Berryessa Today

The airplane, described as a single engine Icon A5, went down just after 9:00 a.m. this morning on the east shore of Lake Berryessa. This area is more commonly known as Portuguese Cove. First responders were sent out to recover the bodies of two individuals, said officials with the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.

A command post was set up by the Sheriff’s Office in Napa County. Emergency rescue workers went out to the airplane crash site by boat because the area has a lack of roadways, said Napa County Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Blower.

No cause has been cited yet as to why this single-engine Icon A5 crashed today.

Investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board

An investigation will be conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).  The NTSB is an independent agency of the federal government. They are charged with the task of investigating probable causes of accidents in a wide variety of transportation modes. The agency also promotes safety in all modes of transportation. They provide help and assistance to individuals and families hurt and/or killed in transportation accidents.

Common Causes of Plane Crashes

Sometimes a defect in one of the mechanical parts of an airplane can contribute to a crash.

The manufacturer of the aircraft described it as “made for adventure.” The plane is reportedly equipped for water-landing and take off.
