Jeep Wrangler SUVs Recalled Due to Fire Risk

Nearly 60,000 Jeep Wrangler vehicles are recalled due to a manufacturing part that could cause a fire in an accident. The Dutch Automotive Company, Stellantis, said the tens of thousands of Jeep Wranglers from 2020 through 2023 model years sold in the United States have a frame stud that may come in contact with the fuel tank during an accident. When this happens, the stud could rupture the gas tank, leading to a fire risk and injuring the occupants.

Details of the Issue

The car manufacturer said the frame stud is an unnecessary fastener mistakenly installed during the production process. The automaker first became aware of a potential problem with the fastener in June 2022 after a report from an assembly plant that mentioned the frame stud.

In a report provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the auto company said it is unaware of any injuries or incidents related to this issue. While it has not received any warranty claims, customer assistance records, or field reports related to the problem, Jeep has decided to issue a recall as a safety precaution.

In early March 2023, some Jeep Wrangler vehicles from the same model years were also recalled for a different fire-related issue.

What Should Owners Do?

Owners of the recalled Jeep Wrangler models will be notified in May 2023 to take their vehicle to a nearby Jeep dealership, where the frame will be checked. The dealerships will remove the stud and paint the frame free of charge. Those who have already paid to fix the issue will be reimbursed.

Check for a Vehicle Recall

To find out if your car has an open recall, plug your vehicle’s identification number (VIN) into this website. If you don’t see a recall listed, your vehicle doesn’t have one. However, because recalls are issued often, it is recommended to check back regularly.

Consult a Personal Injury Lawyer

If you have been injured in an accident due to a recalled vehicle, it is wise to consult an experienced injury attorney to discuss your case. A lawyer can help in several ways:

  • Legal Representation: provide legal representation by helping you navigate the legal system and advocating for your rights. This includes filing a lawsuit against the automaker or other responsible parties to seek compensation for damages, such as medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
  • Investigation: investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine who is liable for the injuries. This may include examining the recall notice, reviewing the vehicle’s history and maintenance records, and interviewing witnesses.
  • Negotiation: negotiate with the automaker or other parties involved in the accident to reach a settlement that fairly compensates you and your family. If the case goes to trial, a lawyer can represent you in court and argue for your case.
  • Knowledge of the Law: provide you with a better understanding of the legal process and the laws related to your case. This includes knowledge of the product liability laws, which govern the responsibilities of manufacturers and sellers of defective products.
